Ideas For Making A Distressed Vintage Flower Brooch
This craft project takes inspiration from flowers with a distressed, vintage look, dark brown and beige color scheme, and central sunburst design. You can choose to create it with or without a stem, make it big or small, intricate or simple...there are endless possibilities!
Great for selling on Etsy or at craft fairs.
Materials:
Polymer clay (dark brown and beige)
Small metal sunburst charm or decorative element
Brooch pin
Fine grit sandpaper
Acrylic paint (dark brown, beige, antique gold)
Craft glue
Clear sealant spray
Instructions:
Create the Flower: Condition your polymer clay and create five petal shapes using a mix of dark brown and beige clay. Blend the colors for a mottled effect. Shape the petals slightly unevenly for a more rustic appearance.
Assemble the Flower: Arrange the petals around a small ball of beige clay to form the flower's center. Bake the clay according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Add the Sunburst: Once cooled, carefully attach the small metal sunburst charm or decorative element to the center of the flower using craft glue.
Distressing: Gently sand the edges of the petals and the flower's center to create a distressed, worn look. Focus on the edges and create subtle variations in texture.
Painting: Apply a thin layer of dark brown acrylic paint to accentuate the crevices and deepen the shadows. Once dry, add highlights with beige and antique gold paint, focusing on the raised areas of the petals and the sunburst.
Attach the Brooch Pin: Glue the brooch pin securely to the back of the flower.
Seal: Apply a few coats of clear sealant spray to protect the finished brooch and enhance its vintage look.
Optional additions:
Add tiny beads or sequins to the center for extra sparkle.
Use different shades of brown and beige to create a more complex color palette.
Experiment with different distressing techniques to achieve a unique look.
